The iconic hike of El Valle. The mountain ridge resembles a sleeping woman, and the summit rewards you with panoramic views of the entire crater. Moderate to challenging, with some steep sections.

A spectacular 35-meter waterfall surrounded by cloud forest. Part of a private nature park that also features a canopy zipline adventure across the treetops and over the falls.

Canopy Zipline

Soar across the treetops on multiple ziplines at the El Macho nature park. The highlight: a line that carries you directly over the waterfall with the valley stretching below.

La Piedra Pintada

Pre-Columbian petroglyphs carved into river boulders — ancient rock art in a peaceful forest setting along a gentle stream. An easy walk suitable for all ages.

El Nispero Zoo & Golden Frog

Home to the Panama Golden Frog conservation center (EVACC), local wildlife, and a butterfly garden. The golden frog is Panama’s national symbol — now only found in captivity.

Square Trees

One of El Valle’s quirky wonders: trees with perfectly square trunk cross-sections. A short stroll off the main road to see this unexplained natural phenomenon.

Pacific Beaches

Playa Santa Clara and Playa Farallon are 30–40 minutes by car. Long sandy beaches, warm water, and fresh seafood. Some resort beaches offer day passes.

Panama City

Just 2–2.5 hours away. Visit the Casco Viejo historic quarter, the Panama Canal, world-class dining, and vibrant nightlife. Easy day trip or stopover.

Cloud Forest Hikes

Getting Here

El Valle is easy to reach from Panama City or Tocumen International Airport.

By Car

2–2.5 hours from Panama City via the Panamericana. Turn off at Las Uvas or San Carlos and follow the winding road up into the crater. The road is paved and scenic.

By Bus

Direct buses from Albrook Bus Terminal in Panama City. Approximately 2.5–3 hours, running several times daily. More frequent on weekends.

From the Airport

Tocumen Airport (PTY) to El Valle is approximately 3–3.5 hours. Private transfers can be arranged. Rental cars are available at the airport. Note: there is no Uber in El Valle — arrange taxis in advance.

When to Visit

Dry Season

December – April
The best time to visit. Less rain, more sunshine. But El Valle’s mountain location means occasional showers even in the dry season. Cool, comfortable temperatures.

Green Season

May – November
Daily afternoon rain showers (usually 1–3 hours). Mornings are often sunny — hike early! The waterfalls are spectacular, and everything is lush and vibrant green.
